40 years of MultiSync®: the industry benchmark for quality and reliability
This year sees the 40th anniversary of MultiSync® technology, a pioneering innovation that revolutionised the displays industry. Since its launch in 1985, MultiSync has set the standard for high-performance display solutions, becoming one of the industry’s most successful display brands, with over 54 million units sold worldwide.
What is MultiSync®?

The NEC MultiSync monitor was the first successful multiple frequency, auto-synchronous display that users didn’t have to update or modify if they upgraded their computer, making it one of the first future-ready computer peripherals in history.
This was a game-changer in the displays industry, a huge step forward from the fixed-frequency monitors that were established at the time. The MultiSync monitor was designed to automatically adjust to the signal frequency of the connected computer, eliminating the need for users to manually configure their display. The ability to seamlessly transition between different computer systems brought convenience and flexibility, simplifying the user experience and setting a new standard for display technology.
Four decades on, Sharp/NEC remains focused on optimising the flexibility and compatibility of its display solutions to deliver ever more enhanced user experiences.
A legacy of innovation
From the early days of CRT monitors to the latest advancements in LCD, as display technology has evolved alongside market demands, MultiSync has consistently set the industry standard for superior image quality, reliability, and durability.
Celebrating 40 years of MultiSync is a testament to our company’s unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence. We are proud of the impact MultiSync has had on the displays industry and remain dedicated to developing cutting-edge, future-ready solutions that meet the changing needs of our customers.
As Sharp/NEC evolves, launching new products under the Sharp brand, the company remains steadfast in its commitment to quality, service, and sustainability.
